Cheniere to introduce feed gas to 6th Sabine Pass LNG train

US LNG export firm Cheniere will soon introduce feed gas to the sixth production train at its Sabine Pass liquefaction plant in Louisiana.

The firm’s unit is seeking approval from the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission (FERC), according to a filing dated September 15.

“Sabine Pass is herein requesting authorization to introduce FEED gas and refrigerants in order to continue its commissioning activities for Train 6,” it said.

It is requesting authorization “at the earliest time possible, but no later than September 21, 2021, in order to remain on schedule.”

Cheniere’s chief executive Jack Fusco said in August the firm had started early commissioning activities at the sixth Sabine Pass production train.

Fusco also said that the project had reached 89.6 percent completion as of the end of June.

In addition, Cheniere expects substantial completion at the liquefaction unit in the first quarter of 2022.

The 25 mtpa Sabine Pass plant has five operational trains and is currently the largest such facility in the US.

Bechtel is building the sixth train which will add 5 mtpa of capacity to the facility.

In total, this is the ninth train the engineering giant is building for Cheniere, including the Corpus Christi plant where Bechtel handed over the third train earlier this year.
