CNOOC: work progresses on world’s largest LNG storage tanks

China National Offshore Oil Company (CNOOC) is moving forward with construction works on six giant LNG storage tanks as part of the expansion phase at its Binhai LNG import terminal in Jiangsu.

CNOOC’s gas and power unit said in a statement it has completed concrete pouring on six 100.6 meters long foundations for the world’s largest LNG storage tanks.

Each of the tanks will have a capacity of 270,000 cbm and will add to the already four existing tanks with a capacity of 220,000 cbm located in Yancheng Binhai Port Industrial Park.

CNOOC independently developed and designed the ultra-large tanks that would be about 60 meters tall.

To remind, CNOOC started work on this expansion phase last year.

Following completion in 2023, the Binhai receiving terminal would have an annual LNG processing capacity of 6 million tons per year, and would become one of the largest LNG storage bases in China, CNOOC said.

CNOOC is also planning a second stage of expansion to build ten more 270,000-cbm LNG storage tanks, according to the statement.
