Cove Point LNG export plant hits milestone

The Cove Point LNG export facility in Maryland has loaded and shipped the 300th cargo since it started commercial operations in April 2018.

Berkshire Hathaway’s unit BHE GT&S, the operator of the US LNG terminal, said in a statement it loaded the milestone cargo at the end of July.

BHE GT&S has a 25 percent stake in the plant and shares ownership of the facility with Dominion Energy (50 percent) and Brookfield (25 percent).

The LNG terminal operator did not provide any additional information regarding the cargo.

Evangelos Marinakis-led Capital Gas said in recent social media post that the 2021-built 174,000-cbm LNG carrier Aristidis I, owned by Capital Product Partners, took the 300th cargo.

According to BHE GT&S, LNG produced from the Cove Point facility to date has supported the energy needs of 28 countries, including “many” in Europe in recent months.

It has a storage capacity of 14.6 billion cubic feet and a daily send-out capacity of 1.8 bcf.

The facility produces LNG for ST Cove Point, a joint venture of Japan’s Sumitomo Corporation and Tokyo Gas, and for India’s Gail under 20-year contracts.
