Croatian FSRU gets new LNG shipment

Croatia’s first and only floating storage and regasification unit, located at the Krk facility in the northern Adriatic Sea, has received its sixteenth shipment of LNG.

The 2015-built 160,000-cbm Cool Explorer, owned by Thenemaris, docked at the 140,000-cbm FSRU on Wednesday, according to the state-owned operator LNG Croatia.

This marks the third LNG carrier arrival in the gas year 2021/2022 and the sixteenth since the start of commercial operations on January 1.

LNG Croatia did not provide any additional information.

The LNG carrier Cool Explorer had quite a journey prior to arriving at the FSRU, according to its AIS data.

It loaded a cargo at Cheniere’s Sabine Pass facility in the US at the beginning of September and arrived in China via the Suez Canal about a month later.

On the way from China to Croatia, it appears that the vessel had visited Pertamina’s Arun LNG hub in Indonesia. In August, TotalEnergies signed a terminal use agreement with a unit of Pertamina to store LNG from international sources at the plant in Lhokseumawe.

After that, the vessel docked at the Idku LNG plant in Egypt, operated by Shell, prior to heading to the FSRU, the data shows.

This means that the Croatian terminal has added another source of LNG to its portfolio.

The LNG Croatia FSRU previously received eight cargoes from the US, two cargoes from Qatar and Nigeria, each, and one from Trinidad and Tobago. It also received one cargo each from the Zeebrugge and Dunkirk facilities.

Croatia’s first LNG terminal has the capacity to send up to 2.6 bcm per year of natural gas into the national grid.

MET, Hungary’s MFGK, and Qatar’s PowerGlobe have booked almost all of the volumes at the Krk facility for the next three years.
