Fluxys: Zeebrugge LNG truck loading capacity sold out

Belgium’s Fluxys said that firms have already booked all the truck loading slots for this year at its LNG import facility located in the port of Zeebrugge.

The LNG import terminal currently has two truck bays with a capacity of about 8,000 slots per year.

Last year Fluxys decided to build four additional bays due to the sharp increase in demand for LNG as fuel for trucks and ships.

Later the same year, Fluxys also started offering bio-LNG services at the plant.

“The demand for LNG/bio-LNG as an alternative fuel is clearly on the rise. Our loading capacity in Zeebrugge for this year (8,000 loading slots) is already completely sold out after five months,” Fluxys said in a social media post.

In order to cater to the increasing demand, the company will add the four truck loading stations, but it seems that it aims to bring them online earlier then planned.

Fluxys previously said it would launch the new bays in 2024.

“We will put them into operation next year and triple our capacity to 24,000 loading slots,” it said in the post.

Fluxys said earlier his year that the Zeebrugge LNG terminal had logged a record number of ship operations and truck loading operations in 2021.

The LNG facility conducted 181 ship operations and 6,635 truck loading operations during the last year.

The Zeebrugge terminal currently consists of five tanks with a storage capacity of 566,000 cbm and a regasification capacity of about 6.6 mtpa.

However, Fluxys is expanding the facility to almost double the regasification capacity.
