Gasgrid: Inkoo FSRU capacity 95 percent booked in 2024

Finland’s gas system and LNG terminal operator Gasgrid said companies have booked 95 percent of the offered regasification capacity at the Inkoo FSRU-based terminal in 2024.

Gasgrid said in a statement this reflects growing gas demand and the LNG terminal’s central role in the Finnish energy market.

The firm did not reveal the names of the companies that booked the capacity.

Excelerate Energy’s 150,900-cbm FSRU Exemplar, which serves the Inkoo terminal under a charter deal, has a regasification capacity of more than 5 bcm per year.

Finnish state-owned energy firm Gasum and Eesti Gas, a unit of Estonian investment firm Infortar, delivered LNG cargoes to the FSRU during the winter period.

Finland relied on LNG imports via the FSRU and the small Hamina LNG terminal to meet domestic demand for households, industry, and power since the Balticconnector gas pipeline between Finland and Estonia suffered a rupture and was shut down in early October 2023.

Last month, the Balticconnector offshore gas pipeline, owned by Gasgrid and Estonian gas system operator Elering, resumed commercial operations.

Gasgrid said the FSRU managed to meet Finnish demand in January when power generation demand peaked at 130 GWh/day due to very cold weather and windless conditions.

The firm said that it will start offering 2025 regasification capacity in July.
