Gladstone LNG exports slightly down in June

LNG exports from the Gladstone port in Australia’s Queensland dropped by 3 percent in June due to lower demand in China, according to data by Gladstone Ports Corporation.

Last month, about 1.783 million tonnes of LNG or 28 cargoes left the three Gladstone terminals on Curtis Island, and compares to 1.840 million tonnes or 28 cargoes in June 2021, the data shows.

Compared to the previous month when LNG exports reached some 1.828 million tonnes of LNG or 29 cargoes, they dropped by about 2.4 percent.

Most of these June LNG exports or 858,458 tonnes landed in China, marking a drop of 26.2 percent when compared to 1.319 million tonnes last year.

The rest of Gladstone LNG exports in June went to South Korea, Japan, Malaysia, and Chile.

GPC’s data also shows landlocked European country Switzerland as the final destination for one cargo. Switzerland may have imported regasified LNG from France, but LNG Prime could not find out more information regarding this cargo by the time this article was published.

As per other destinations in June, volumes to Japan rose to 240,670 tonnes when compared to 66,665 tonnes last year.

Curtis Island is home to the Santos-operated GLNG plant, the ConocoPhillips-led APLNG terminal, and Shell’s QCLNG facility. These are the only LNG export facilities on Australia’s east coast.
