Greenpeace activists write a message on Croatian FSRU

Greenpeace activists wrote a message on Monday on the starboard side of the 140,000-cbm LNG Croatia FSRU located at the Krk facility in the northern Adriatic Sea, as part of a protest against fossil fuels.

Greenpeace CEE activists approached the FSRU with two small inflatable boats on Monday afternoon and wrote “climate killer” on the vessel, according to Greenpeace Croatia.

The organization says “fossil gas is not a solution to the energy crisis because it harms both the climate and the economy.”

It did not provide any additional information.

The 50.5 meters long ice-strengthened vessel Arctic Sunrise led the protest. During the action, the diesel-powered vessel was anchored nearby the FSRU for about two hours, prior to returning to the Port of Rijeka, its AIS data shows.

Social media reports suggest that two boats belonging to the Rijeka Port Authority and the police had arrived at the scene about one hour after the Greenpeace vessel had dropped anchor near the FSRU.

It remains unclear whether the activists had attempted to climb aboard the LNG vessel.

To remind, LNG Croatia FSRU recently received its 14th LNG cargo onboard the 2021-built 174,000-cbm LNGShips Empress.

This shipment marked the first LNG cargo from Trinidad and Tobago to dock at the Krk facility since the start of commercial operations on January 1.

Previously, the LNG Croatia FSRU received eight shipments from the US, two cargoes from Qatar and Nigeria, each, and one from Belgium’s Zeebrugge.

Croatia’s first LNG terminal has the capacity to send up to 2.6 bcm per year of natural gas into the national grid.
