India’s Petronet LNG working on Gopalpur FSRU project

India’s Petronet LNG is working on a new FSRU-based import facility at the Gopalpur port in Odisha, as it looks to establish its presence on the eastern coast of the country.

The country’s largest LNG importer already operates the 17.5 mtpa Dahej terminal and the 5 mtpa Kochi plant on the west coast of India.

According to Petronet, the new Gopalpur floating LNG terminal would help meet the increasing gas demand of the eastern and central part of the country.

Petronet said in its recently published annual report it had already completed the pre-project studies for the facility.

The firm is currently in the “process of preparing the detailed feasibility report for a 4 mtpa floating storage and regasification (FSRU) terminal followed by a PFR for a 5 mtpa land-based terminal in future,” it said.

In addition, Petronet has signed a memorandum of understanding with Gopalpur Ports, “and is in discussion with them to finalize the key technical and commercial terms of the agreements.”

Petronet added it was working on obtaining a final investment decision for the FSRU project.

The firm did not provide any additional details.
