According to a joint statement, the proposed development comprises an LNG floating storage unit (FSU) integrated with an onshore modular regasification terminal at POIC Lahad Datu.
GOSB, a Sabah-based energy infrastructure company, has received state government approval for the development of the LNG import terminal, with an initial capacity of 0.6 mtpa of LNG and future modular expansion capability.
The company has also secured other approvals required to advance the project into the next phase of development and
environmental assessment, the statement said.
The LNG infrastructure is planned to be developed in phases and is expected to include an LNG FSU, modular
onshore regasification facilities, mooring jetty, LNG shuttle infrastructure, LNG truck loading facilities, and LNG
fueling stations.
Under the collaboration framework, LNG Alliance will participate as the strategic co-developer, including the provision of a 135,000-cbm
LNG FSU, and long-term LNG supply based on US-sourced feed gas, aimed at enhancing reliability and long-term competitiveness, the statement said.
“The proposed terminal is expected to strengthen energy accessibility and support industrial development in Sabah’s East Coast corridor, including potential supply to downstream industries within and surrounding POIC Lahad Datu covering refineries, palm oil industries, power generation, transportation, and LNG bunkering activities and other industrial users,” the partners said.
LNG Alliance previously announced several initiatives, but the company has not yet developed an LNG project.
The firm is currently working on the planned 7.8 mtpa Amigo LNG export plant in Mexico.
