US weekly LNG exports up to 26 shipments

US liquefied natural gas (LNG) exports rose in the week ending September 6 compared to the week before, according to the Energy Information Administration.

The agency said in its weekly natural gas report that 26 LNG carriers departed the US plants between August 31 and September 6, up by three cargoes compared to the week before.

Moreover, the total capacity of these LNG vessels is 96 Bcf, the EIA said, citing shipping data provided by Bloomberg Finance.

Average natural gas deliveries to US LNG export terminals increased by 7.1 percent (0.9 Bcf/d) week over week, averaging 13 Bcf/d, the highest weekly average since May, according to data from S&P Global Commodity Insights.

Natural gas deliveries to terminals in South Louisiana increased by 8 percent (0.6 Bcf/d) to 7.8 Bcf/d, while deliveries to terminals in South Texas increased by 6.4 percent (0.2 Bcf/d) to 4.1 Bcf/d.

The agency said that natural gas deliveries to terminals outside the Gulf Coast were essentially unchanged at 1 Bcf/d.

Cheniere’s Sabine Pass plant shipped nine cargoes and the company’s Corpus Christi facility sent four shipments during the week under review.

The Freeport LNG terminal shipped four cargoes, Venture Global’s Calcasieu Pass sent three cargoes, and Sempra’s Cameron LNG terminal and the Cove Point terminal each shipped two cargoes.

Also, the Elba Island LNG terminal sent two cargoes during the week under review, the agency said.

Henry Hub flat

This report week, the Henry Hub spot price remained flat at $2.49/MMBtu this Wednesday compared to the last week.

Moreover, the price of the October 2023 NYMEX contract decreased 28.6 cents, from $2.796/MMBtu last Wednesday to $2.510/MMBtu this Wednesday.

According to the agency, the price of the 12-month strip averaging October 2023 through September 2024 futures contracts declined 13.8 cents to $3.208/MMBtu.

The NYMEX January 2024 contract reflects about a $1.17/MMBtu premium to the October 2023 contract, it said.

TTF down

The agency said that international natural gas futures decreased this report week.

Bloomberg Finance reported that weekly average front-month futures prices for LNG cargoes in East Asia decreased 7 cents to a weekly average of $13.26/MMBtu.

Natural gas futures for delivery at the Dutch TTF decreased 46 cents to a weekly average of $10.75/MMBtu.

In the same week last year (week ending September 7, 2022), the prices were $56.07/MMBtu in East Asia and $66.49/MMBtu at TTF, the agency said.
