FERC revealed the approval in a filing on Thursday.
Last month, Plaquemines LNG filed an extension of time request for an additional 15 months, citing “extenuating circumstances” that have prevented it from placing all its facilities in-service by the original in-service date required in its authorization.
Plaquemines LNG anticipates placing all its Phase 1 facilities in-service during the fourth quarter of 2026, and the remaining Phase 2 facilities in-service by mid-2027.
This approval comes days after US energy giant Chevron and Polish LNG importer Orlen asked FERC to let them intervene in a proceeding regarding the request for a time extension.
Chevron and Orlen both have long-term contracts for Plaqumines LNG volumes.
FERC also noted in the approval that Chevron U.S.A. and Orlen filed “timely, unopposed motions to intervene.”
“Orlen urges the Commission to consider whether an extension of time is required and to proceed with due care. No protests were filed,” FERC said.
“Based on the facts presented in the request and the case record, Plaquemines LNG is granted an extension of time until and including December 31, 2027 to complete construction of its Plaquemines LNG project and make it available for service,” FERC said.

Venture Global took a final investment decision on the first phase of the Plaquemines project with a capacity of 13.3 mtpa and the related pipeline in May 2022, while the company sanctioned the second phase in March 2023.
The full project, including the second stage, features 36 modular units, configured in 18 blocks. Each train has a capacity of 0.626 mtpa.
Earlier this year, Venture Global also received approval from FERC to boost the capacity of its Plaquemines LNG terminal to 27.2 mtpa.
In December 2024, Venture Global shipped the first Plaquemines LNG cargo.
The facility exported 29 LNG cargoes during the first quarter of this year, 51 cargoes during the second quarter, and 64 cargoes during the third quarter.
