Air Products scores another Qatari LNG expansion gig

US LNG equipment specialist Air Products said it has won another contract related to QatarEnergy’s giant LNG expansion project in Qatar.

Under the deal, Air Products would supply four end flash coil wound heat exchangers (CWHE) for the North Field East LNG project in Ras Laffan, it said in a statement.

The firm said that one of the end flash CWHE’s would be used with each of the four AP-X LNG process trains previously announced and already being built by Air Products for Chiyoda and Technip Energies, who are constructing the LNG process trains for QatarEnergy.

In February 2021, QatarEnergy awarded the EPCC contract to the joint venture consisting of Chiyoda and Technip Energies to build four mega trains with a capacity of 8 mtpa in the Ras Laffan complex.

This first phase of the expansion project will increase Qatar’s LNG production capacity from 77 to 110 mtpa. Also, QatarEnergy is developing a second phase to further boost capacity to 126 mtpa as well as additional expansions.

Air Products said it would build the end flash CWHEs at its Port Manatee, Florida manufacturing facility.

According to the firm, the unique modular design of these end flash CWHEs provides for a compact installation, which enables the recovery of flash gas refrigeration and the production of additional LNG.

Air Products did not reveal the price tag of the deal.

It added that the partners plan to launch the first NFE AP-X LNG train at the end of 2025.
