Nakilat confirms Shell LNG carrier charter

Qatar’s Nakilat has confirmed Shell as the charterer of the LNG shipping firm’s recently delivered newbuild Global Star.

Nakilat revealed the deal in a short statement on Sunday but it did not disclose any further information.

According to VesselsValue, the contract is for one year with a daily rate of $50,000.

To remind, LNG Prime reported on the delivery and the charter last week.

South Korea’s Daewoo Shipbuilding & Marine Engineering delivered the 173,400-cbm vessel to Nakilat’s joint venture Global Shipping.

The Qatari firm owns 60% percent share in the venture while Greece’s Maran Ventures holds the rest.

In addition, Nakilat manages the vessel commercially and technically.

Global Star is the second out of four LNG carriers the venture has on order at DSME.

The first vessel Global Energy and Global Star feature ME-GI engines while the other two newbuilds have X-DF propulsion technologies.

DSME should deliver these two carriers by the end of 2021.
