Egypt’s Ministry of Petroleum and Mineral Resources said in a statement that it has signed two MoUs with the Syrian Ministry of Energy.
The first MoU aims to enhance cooperation in supplying natural gas to Syria through Egypt for electricity generation, utilizing Egyptian infrastructure, including FSRUs and gas transmission networks.
According to the ministry, the second MoU addresses Syria’s needs for petroleum products.
“In addition, both sides discussed opportunities for cooperation in rehabilitating Syria’s gas and petroleum infrastructure, as well as benefiting from Egyptian technical expertise in this domain,” the ministry said.
Syria has no LNG import infrastructure.
On the other hand, Egypt shifted from being an LNG exporter to an importer early 2024 due to declining domestic gas production and rising demand for cooling amid multiple heatwaves.
In October 2025, the country launched operations at another FSRU-based facility with the arrival of the first cargo at the 138,350-cbm Energos Winter in Damietta.
The Damietta FSRU is located on the Mediterranean coast, unlike the other three vessels which are located at Ain Sukhna on the Red Sea.
In the meantime, Egypt continues to export LNG from the Idku plant, including to Türkiye.
