US privately-owned firm Harvey Gulf International Marine is continuing to add battery power to its vessels and plans to install ten additional battery systems.
To remind, the shipowner said recently it installed a battery back onboard its LNG-powered PSV Harvey Energy.
Now the New Orleans-based firm will add battery system to its remaining LNG PSV’s without battery systems.
The vessels in question are Harvey America, Harvey Liberty, Harvey Power, and Harvey Freedom.
Additionally, Harvey will install two systems on its MPSV Harvey Subsea. This will make it the only such vessel in America that features dual-fuel and battery power, the firm claims.
The remaining four batteries will go on three of Harvey’s 300 and 310’ PSV’s. This includes installing two systems on one of these vessels, it said.
Harvey Gulf and QLNG CEO Shane Guidry said the firm completed sea trials of the Harvey Energy, making it America’s first tri-fueled vessel utilizing, diesel, LNG, and electric battery power.
This fleet of vessels will be “crucial in assisting our clients’ efforts to achieve net carbon zero,” he said.
