Hyundai gets OK from ABS for regas system

South Korea’s Hyundai Heavy Industries and its parent KSOE have recently won an approval in principle from classification society ABS for a new LNG regasification system.

The Hi-ReGAS+ concept, that uses natural circulation, is for floating storage regasification units (FSRUs) and floating liquefied natural gas (LNG) terminals, according to a statement by ABS.

This is a follow-on model to the Hi-ReGAS system from Hyundai Heavy Industries Group, the parent of KSOE and HHI.

“The stand-out feature is a natural circulation system that utilizes the density difference of the fluid in the intermediate heat transfer system that transfers heat from seawater to LNG, creating a highly energy-efficient circulation system and reducing energy consumption to improve reliability,” ABS said.

The group built a demonstration facility on a scale of 1/100 of an actual regasification system to verify the performance of the regasification system, ABS said.
