Chinese yard launches GEFO LNG-ready tanker

China Merchants Jinling Shipyard has launched the first LNG-ready chemical tanker for German shipowner GEFO.

The Chinese yard, previously known as AVIC Dingheng Shipbuilding, launched the 7,000 dwt stainless steel tanker Norma on July 2.

GEFO ordered two FKAB Marine-designed LNG-ready vessels in 2018.

However, the German owner said last year it amended the order for the second vessel to include LNG propulsion.

This vessel will get two 162-cbm LNG fuel systems from Gloryholder LGM as part of a deal revealed earlier this year.

Both of the vessels will have 14 cargo tanks and will be certified for Finnish/Swedish ice class, ICE 1A.
