French-Japanese LNG tanker starts EDF charter

A brand new LNG carrier owned by France LNG Shipping has started a long-term charter with a unit of state-controlled utility EDF.

France LNG Shipping is a joint venture consisting of Japanese shipping giant NYK and Geogas LNG.

LPG shipper Geogas and European infrastructure funds ACP and DIF control Geogas LNG.

South Korean shipbuilder Hyundai Samho Heavy Industries delivered the vessel on May 15, according to an NYK statement on Monday.

To remind, NYK signed the charter deal for the 174,000-cbm vessel with EDF’s LNG shipping unit back in 2018.

The 297 meters long vessel named Elisa Larus will serve EDF LNG Shipping for a period of up to 20 years.

The LNG carrier features GTT’s Mark III Flex cargo containment system and WinGD’s dual-fuel slow-speed engine propulsion.

In addition, the vessel, classed by Bureau Veritas, has been awarded the French classification society’s cyber security notation.

This is the first such award of a cyber notation for an LNG carrier, according to NYK.
