K Line, Petronas name LNG carrier duo in China

Chinese shipbuilder Hudong-Zhonghua has hosted a naming ceremony for two 174,000-cbm liquefied natural gas (LNG) carriers it built for Japan’s K Line and Malaysia’s Petronas.

Puteri Kelantan and Puteri Negeri Sembilan were named in a ceremony held on September 2, with the Petronas project almost coming to an end, Hudong-Zhonghua said in a statement.

The project consisted of building four LNG carriers which will serve Petronas.

Hudong-Zhonghua previously delivered the 299-meter-long X-DF vessels Puteri Johor and Puteri Kedah, which were deployed on the Malaysia–China route.

These vessels are owned by K Line joint venture companies.

In addition to these vessels, Hudong-Zhonghua noted that it continued to expand its cooperation with Petronas this year and signed a contract with its unit MISC to build 5+5 LNG carriers with a capacity of 174,000 cubic meters.

MISC also ordered one 18,700-cbm LNG vessel from Hudong-Zhonghua, backed by a 10-year charter deal with a unit of Petronas.
