Klaipeda FSRU to resume ops in mid-June

The 170,000-cbm FSRU Independence is expected to resume regasification operations in Lithuania’s Klaipeda in mid-June after it returns from a Danish yard, according to KN Energies.

In 2022, KN exercised its option to buy the 2014-built FSRU for $153.5 million, excluding VAT, from Norway’s Hoegh LNG at the end of its current lease deal in 2024.

Hoegh LNG will continue to operate and maintain the unit with a regas capacity of 3.75 bcm under a five-year deal announced in September last year.

Prior to taking ownership of the vessel in December, the vessel will undergo its first drydock inspection in a repair and construction shipyard in Denmark, KN said in a statement.

The vessel departed Klaipeda to Denmark on May 2.

According to its AIS data, the FSRU arrived at Fayard, located in Denmark’s Odense port, on Sunday.

During the inspection of the FSRU in the dry dock, it is primarily planned to renew the anti-corrosion coating of the hull, and to perform other periodic maintenance works, KN said.

Since the size of the FSRU Independence requires a large dock, which is not available in Klaipėda, the vessel has been diverted to the shipyard in Denmark, it said,

It is estimated that the duration of voyage of Independence to and from the shipyard will take around one month, KN said.

According to this information, FSRU Independence will not perform regasification until mid-June, it said.

During this period, Lithuania will be supplied with natural gas through the GIPL gas interconnection between Lithuania and Poland and from the Inčukalns natural gas storage in Latvia, KN added.

Spot cargo

KN also said in a separate statement that it offers spot LNG cargo capacities for August-September.

The size of the cargo is about 1 TWh.

“Requests for different size of cargo are considered, however the priority is given to conventional size of cargo,” it said.

Also, the spot cargo delivery window is August 16-17, or other date agreed with the terminal operator.

The closing date for request submissions is May 20.
