Knutsen’s LNG newbuild launched in South Korea

South Korea’s Hyundai Samho Heavy Industries has floated out a new LNG carrier for Norwegian shipowner Knutsen.

The shipbuilder launched the 174,000-cbm Extremadura Knutsen on May 14, according to a social media post by Knutsen’s unit France LNG Knutsen.

Following delivery in 2023, the vessel will go on long-term charter to LNG giant Shell, it said.

France LNG Knutsen did not provide any additional information.

In the picture above, Extremadura Knutsen sits in the vicinity of the 174,000-cbm Santander Knutsen and Malaga Knutsen.

These two LNG carriers are also chartered to Shell and HSHI should deliver them later this year.

HSHI started building the first out of seven Knutsen’s LNG carriers which will serve Shell in February last year.

The yard is expected to deliver these vessels in the period from 2022 until 2024.

These LNG carriers will feature WinGD’s dual-fuel X-DF engines and GTT’s Mark III Flex containment system.

Moreover, the 297 meters long vessels will have boil-off management plants, air lubrication systems, and shaft generators for auxiliary power along with optimized hull and design speed, according to Knutsen.
