LNG tanker Bilbao Knutsen suffers damage after collision off Spain’s Huelva

The 138,000-cbm LNG carrier Bilbao Knutsen, owned by Norway’s shipping firm Knutsen, has suffered damage after colliding with another tanker offshore the Port of Huelva in Spain.

The 2004-built LNG carrier collided on Friday with product tanker STI Pimlico, operated by Scorpio tankers, about 2.5 miles off the Huelva port, according to the Spanish Transport, Mobility, and Urban Planning ministry (MITMA).

Both of the vessels sustained damages during the lateral collision in the port’s anchorage area. There were no reported injuries or spills from the vessels, MITMA said.

Bilbao Knutsen was leaving the port which hosts the Enagas-operated Huelva LNG import terminal, its AIS data shows. The vessel appears to be laden.

On the other side, STI Pimlico was on its way to enter the port.

The ministry did not release any additional information but MITMA’s images show several dents on Bilbao Knutsen’s port side while STI Pimlico mainly sustained starboard damages.

Knutsen’s data shows that Bilbao Knutsen is on a long-term charter to Shell.
