Pertamina preps Jawa Satu FSRU ahead of Indonesia LNG-to-power job

Pertamina’s Bontang LNG terminal in East Kalimantan has completed cooling the tanks of the 170,000-cbm Jawa Satu FSRU ahead of its job for the Jawa 1 LNG-to-power project in Indonesia.

Terminal operator Badak LNG, a unit of Pertamina, said it completed gassing-up and cool-down operations for the 292.5 meters long FSRU on February 14.

Badak LNG said it carried out the works to prepare Jawa Satu FSRU so it could operate safely as a storage facility.

The vessel arrived at the Bontang facility on February 12 after leaving South Korea’s Samsung Heavy Industries in early January.

In Indonesia, the vessel will work for Jawa Satu Regas, a joint venture consisting of state-owned Pertamina, Japan’s Marubeni, Sojitz, and MOL.

MOL will operate and maintain the newbuild with a 300 MMscfd regas capacity.

In addition, Jawa Satu FSRU will serve a 1.76GW gas-fired power plant in Karawang Regency in Indonesia’s West Java province.

It would get LNG from BP’s Tangguh facility in Indonesia’s Papua Barat Province for onward distribution via onshore and offshore pipelines to the power plant.

Jawa Satu Power, a venture of Pertamina, Marubeni, and Sojitz leads the onshore power plant while the electricity produced at the facility would go to Indonesian power producer PLN as part of a 25-year contract.

The partners claim this development is Asia’s first LNG-to-power project using an FSRU.
