Samsung launches Minerva’s LNG newbuild

South Korean shipbuilding giant Samsung Heavy Industries has launched a newbuild vessel for Greek LNG shipper Minerva Gas.

The yard held a launching ceremony for the 174,000-cbm Minerva Kalymnos on July 18.

The 293 meters long LNG carrier features GTT’s Mark III Flex Plus containment system and WinGD’s two-stroke X-DF propulsion.

Minerva Gas, a unit of Andreas Martinos-led Minerva Marine, has three sister vessels on order at Samsung and this is the first ship in this batch.

The Greek company has another two 173,400-cbm LNG carriers under construction at the DSME yard in Korea.
