South Korea’s Samsung Heavy clinches another LNG carrier order

Samsung Heavy announced on Monday that it will build the new LNG vessel for an unidentified owner in Bermuda.

The order is valued at 385.5 billion won, or approximately $252 million.

Samsung Heavy will deliver the LNG carrier by January 2029.

The shipbuilder did not provide further details regarding the new contract.

One source said that London-based Purus Marine could be behind this order.

LNG Prime could not verify this immediately.

Purus Marine was tied to a $252 million order for one LNG carrier at Samsung Heavy in March this year.

In December last year, Purus also placed an order for two LNG carriers at the shipbuilder worth $503 million.

Including this order, Samsung Heavy has secured $8.5 billion in orders for 29 vessels this year.

This includes orders for 13 LNG carriers, one FSRU, and one FLNG.

Samsung Heavy recently secured an order for one LNG carrier tied to interests associated with JP Morgan.

JP Morgan was also tied to two LNG carriers at Samsung Heavy in January this year.

Last month, Stonepeak’s Seapeak ordered three LNG carriers from Samsung Heavy.

Samsung Heavy also won an order for two LNG carriers from Greece’s TMS Cardiff Gas, three LNG carriers from Denmark’s Celsius Tankers, a unit of Celsius Shipping, and one LNG FSRU from Malaysia’s MISC.

Most recently, Samsung Heavy secured an order worth approximately $2.88 billion to build the first floating LNG production unit for Delfin Midstream, the US developer of a floating LNG export project offshore Louisiana

Last year, Samsung Heavy secured orders for 11 LNG carriers.
