TMS Cardiff Gas welcomes new LNG tanker

South Korea’s Hyundai Heavy Industries has delivered a 174,000 cbm LNG carrier to TMS Cardiff Gas as the Greece-based firm continues to boost its fleet.

Cobia LNG left Hyundai’s Ulsan yard during the weekend and was on Monday located in the East China Sea, its AIS data shows.

TMS Cardiff Gas confirmed the handover in a statement on March 2 saying it took delivery of the vessel owned by LNGShips on February 26 while the carrier started work for a “major gas company” two days later.

This marks the first newbuilding vessel for the firm this year and the fifth in total from Hyundai Heavy for the 2020-2021 period.

As per specifications, the ship features GTT’s Mark III Flex containment system and two WinGD X-DF dual-fuel, low-pressure engines.

This carrier follows the delivery of Dorado LNG in December while the Greek shipper welcomed Amber LNG prior to that.

TMS Cardiff Gas currently manages a fleet of 16 LNG carriers out of which three more are on order in South Korea.

LNGShips Athena, Manhattan, and Empress should all join the fleet during this year and will serve Shell under long-term charter deals.
