Work starts on Gothia LNG-powered tanker

China’s Avic Dingheng shipyard has started building the seventh LNG-powered vessel ordered by Sweden’s Gothia Tanker Alliance.

The Chinese yard held a keel ceremony for the dual-fueled product and chemical tanker on April 18, according to Swedish shipowner Furetank.

Furetank is a member of the Swedish alliance and will be responsible for the commercial management of the vessel under construction with a working name AD0037.

Other members of the alliance include Älvtank and Thun Tankers.

The members of the Gothia Tanker Alliance ordered in total eighth dual-fuelled product and chemical tankers at the Chinese yard.

Älvtank received the sixth vessel out of this batch back in September 2019.

The 16,300-deadweight-tonnage medium-sized tankers feature LNG propulsion and battery backup as well.

Each of the FKAB-designed ships will be 149 meters long and 22.8 meters wide.
