Elenger joins SGMF as it prepares to take delivery of LNG bunkering ship

Estonia-based Elenger joined the Society for Gas as a Marine Fuel (SGMF) as it prepares to welcome its first LNG bunkering vessel.

London-based SGMF is a non-governmental organisation gathering 144 members with the main goal of promoting LNG and gas as a marine fuel.

Elenger says it sees SGMF “as a valuable source for networking, sharing practice” and promotion of its upcoming LNG bunkering vessel Optimus.

To remind, Damen’s Chinese yard in Yichang launched the 6000-cbm ship in September last year.

Following delivery in the first quarter this year, the 100 meters long vessel will supply LNG to wide range of ships sailing in the eastern part of the Baltic Sea, especially the Gulf of Finland.

These include two new Tallink’s LNG-powered fast ferries. Elenger is part of Infortar group that includes Tallink, the ferry company operating in the Baltic Sea region.

The new bunkering vessel will be able to transfer up to 1000 cbm/h of liquefied natural gas via a ship-to-ship method.

Furthermore, it will have an ice class 1A allowing it to operate in difficult ice conditions.
