Minerva to take delivery of first Samsung newbuild

South Korea’s Samsung Heavy Industries will soon hand over a 174,000 cbm vessel to Greek shipper Minerva Gas that recently took delivery of its first-ever LNG carrier.

Minerva Kalymnos is currently undergoing gas trials and the Korean yard should deliver the vessel in February.

To remind, Samsung launched Minerva Kalymnos in July last year. The vessel features WinGD’s X-DF propulsion and GTT’s Mark III Flex Plus containment system.

Minerva Gas, a unit of Andreas Martinos-led Minerva Marine, has three sister vessels on order at Samsung and this is the first ship in this batch.

Samsung should deliver the second ship, Minerva Chios, in September this year while the third newbuild is expected to join Minerva’s fleet in March 2022.

In addition, the Greek shipping firm has another two 173,400 cbm LNG carriers under construction at the DSME yard in Korea.

As mentioned above, Minerva already took delivery of the first newbuild in this batch.

The firm’s first LNG carrier on water, the 173,400-cbm Minerva Psara, left DSME’s Okpo yard in early January to start work for an unidentified charterer. The vessel was on Monday transiting the Panama Canal and it is probably heading to pick up a US cargo.

DSME should deliver the second vessel, Minerva Limnos, in July this year.

These newbuilds feature MAN ME-GI two-stroke propulsion and GTT’s NO96 containment system.
