Greg Joiner appointed as EVP of Shell Energy

LNG giant Shell has appointed Greg Joiner as the executive vice president of Shell Energy following Steve Hill’s decision to leave the company.

Joiner, currently SVP Shell Energy Europe, will be appointed as EVP Shell Energy, with accountability for renewable generation, and gas and power marketing, effective April 1, Shell told LNG Prime in an emailed statement.

Moreover, David Wells, SVP Shell Energy Trading, will report directly to EVP Trading & Supply Andrew Smith, effective April 1, and will continue to lead power, gas and environmental products trading.

Tom Summers, SVP LNG Trading, will report directly to EVP Trading & Supply Andrew Smith, effective April 1, and will continue to lead LNG trading, Shell said.

“This strong, hugely experienced team will continue to lead our portfolio of LNG, gas and power trading and marketing activities and play an important role in delivering more value with less emissions,” a Shell spokesperson said.

Shell recently announced that Steve Hill decided to leave the company saying that his successor would be announced “in the coming weeks”.

Hill became executive VP of Shell Energy in February 2016 after Shell acquired BG.

Shell sold 67.09 million tonnes of LNG during 2023, a rise of 2 percent compared to 65.98 million tonnes in 2022.

The firm recently said that global demand for LNG is estimated to rise by more than 50 percent by 2040, as industrial coal-to-gas switching gathers pace in China and South Asian and South-east Asian countries use more LNG to support their economic growth.
