CIMC SOE launches another Avenir LNG newbuild

China’s Nantong CIMC Sinopacific Offshore & Engineering has launched another newbuild vessel for London-based small-scale player Avenir LNG.

The Chinese yard this time launched the 20,000-cbm Avenir Allegiance, bigger than the dual-purpose, LNG bunkering and supply vessel Avenir Aspiration it floated out recently.

Avenir claims the ship is also the largest LNG bunkering vessel in the world.

The launching ceremony took place on Wednesday at the Zhoushan Changhong International Shipyard.

Avenir, a joint venture consisting of Stolt-Nielsen, Hoegh LNG and Golar LNG, has two 20,000 cbm vessels on order at the Chinese yard beside the two 7,500 cbm newbuilds.

These DNV GL-classed carriers and bunkering vessels will also join the Avenir fleet during the course of this year.

They are 159.9 meters long and feature WinGD dual-fuel propulsion and type C tanks.

Cayman Islands-flagged Allegiance will become the fourth of six newbuilds delivered to Avenir as the firm has also ordered two 7,500 cbm vessels at Keppel Offshore & Marine’s Nantong yard.

Avenir’s first newbuild delivery, Avenir Advantage, took place at Keppel in October last year. The next in line is Avenir Accolade followed by Aspiration, Allegiance, Ascension and Achievement this year.
