PetroChina delivers LNG cargo to PetroVietnam Gas

PetroVietnam Gas, a unit of state-owned PetroVietnam, has received a liquefied natural gas cargo from PetroChina International at its Thi Vai LNG import terminal.

This is the second LNG cargo PetroVietnam received from PetroChina.

The 2014-built 154,800-cbm LNG carrier, Amani, owned by Brunei Gas Carriers, delivered on June 12 about 70,000 tons of LNG to the Thi Vai LNG terminal.

PetroVietnam Gas said in a statement that the LNG shipment came from Lumut, Brunei, where Brunei LNG’s terminal is located.

The shipment, provided by PetroChina International (Singapore), will be used to fuel power plants and to supply industrial customers, PetroVietnam Gas said.

Fifth LNG shipment

This shipment is the fourth for the Thi Vai LNG terminal this year, and the fifth since the launch of terminal last year.

These vessels delivered more than 300,000 tons of LNG, mainly supplying power plants during the dry season in 2024, PetroVietnam Gas said.

Prior to the latest cargo, PetroVietnam Gas received last month a shipment from a unit of France’s TotalEnergies from Pertamina’s Bontang LNG facility.

PetroVietnam Gas also received on April 29 about 60,000 tons of LNG from PetroChina, and it received on April 11 some 70,000 tons of LNG from QatarEnergy LNG, previously known as Qatargas.

The firm officially launched its Thi Vai LNG terminal in the coastal area southeast of Ho Chi Minh City on October 29, 2023 after nearly 4 years of construction and commissioning.

In July 2023, LNG giant Shell delivered the commissioning LNG cargo to the terminal from the Bontang LNG plant.

PetroVietnam Gas also in February this year started supplying LNG via trucks from its Thi Vai LNG import terminal to industrial customers.

Vietnam’s first LNG import facility consists of one 180,000-cbm LNG tank, a jetty, and regas area.

The terminal has a capacity of 1 mtpa in its first phase, but PetroVietnam Gas plans to boost the capacity to 3 mtpa in the next stage.
