P&O Cruises names second LNG-powered newbuild

Carnival Corporation’s P&O Cruises has named its second LNG-powered newbuild Arvia as it looks to take delivery of the vessel in December 2022.

Arvia, meaning “from the seashore,” is a sister vessel to Iona. Germany’s shipbuilder Meyer Werft delivered the first ship to the UK-based cruise operator in October but it still awaits its debut due to the ongoing Covid-19 pandemic.

To remind, P&O Cruises said in November it canceled cruises into April 2021 due to the ongoing uncertainty “around European ports of call”.

Following delivery last year, P&O Cruises said Iona became the first British LNG-powered cruise vessel.

Moreover, both of the sister ships will be 345 meters long featuring 17 guest decks.

The luxury liners will accommodate up to 5,200 passengers making them one of the largest cruise ships in the world, according to the firm.
