Cheniere announced the milestone shipment in a social media post on Thursday.
The 2016-built 177,000-cbm, LNG Lagos II, owned by Nigeria’s Bonny Gas Transport, loaded the 1000th cargo at the Corpus Christi facility.
According to its AIS data provided by VesselsValue, the vessel left the liquefaction and export terminal on Wednesday and was sailing in the Gulf of Mexico on Friday.
LNG Lagos II is expected to arrive in Piomnino, Italy around October 9, the data shows.
Snam operates the FSRU-based LNG import terminal in Piombino.
Cheniere’s Corpus Christi liquefaction plant now has three operational trains, each with a capacity of about 5 mtpa.
In June 2022, Cheniere made the final investment decision on the Corpus Christi Stage 3 expansion project, worth about $8 billion.
Compatriot Bechtel officially started construction on the project in October of the same year.
The project includes building seven midscale trains, each with an expected liquefaction capacity of about 1.49 mtpa.
According to the latest construction report, the project is almost 66 percent complete.
Besides this expansion, Cheniere plans to build two more midscale trains at its Corpus Christi LNG plant.
The CCL midscale trains 8 and 9 project would include two trains, nearly identical in design to trains 1-7 and each capable of producing up to 1.64 mtpa of LNG.
The project could have a capacity of about 5 mtpa with debottlenecking.
More than 3,570 LNG cargoes
Last year, Cheniere’s Sabine Pass LNG terminal in Louisiana shipped the 2000th cargo of LNG since its launch in 2016.
The Sabine Pass facility is the largest LNG terminal in the US and currently has a capacity of about 30 mtpa following the launch of the sixth train in February 2022.
In addition, Cheniere aims to build two new liquefaction trains as part of the Sabine Pass Stage 5 expansion project to add up to 20 mtpa of capacity to the giant facility.
Including both Sabine Pass and Corpus Christi, Cheniere shipped its 3,000th cargo in September last year, becoming the fastest company to reach this milestone.
The world’s second-largest LNG operator previously set industry records as the fastest to produce and export 1,000 and 2,000 cargoes.
Since 2016, Cheniere has produced and exported more than 3,570 cargoes to 40 markets around the world from its two facilities in the US Gulf Coast region, the company said on Thursday.
