GTT inks deal with Beijing Gas to build up to six Chinese LNG tanks

GTT said it has signed a cooperation deal with China’s Beijing Gas Group under which the French firm could build up to six new LNG tanks at the Tianjin Nangang terminal.

GTT and China Huanqiu Contracting & Engineering (HQC) are already constructing two 220,000 cbm storage tanks for Beijing Gas’ 5 mtpa LNG terminal in the Tianjin south port industrial zone.

The new cooperation deal mainly covers the second and third expansion phase of the terminal. These include the construction of six 220,000 cbm LNG storage tanks, the French firm said on Wednesday.

As part of the new deal, GTT would also support support Beijing Gas, a unit of Beijing Enterprises Group, to “upgrade the national standards of this new generation LNG onshore tank,” it said.

Adnan Ezzarhouni, general manager of GTT China, signed the cooperation deal during a ceremony held at the French Embassy in Beijing in the presence of Tian Zhenqing, chairman of Beijing Enterprises Group, and Li Yalan, chairwoman of the board of BGG.

GTT claims that the two membrane containment tanks currently under construction at Tianjin port are the largest in China. They feature GST technology developed by the French company.

The construction of the terminal includes four LNG storage tanks in the first phase, four additional tanks in the second, and two in the third, according to GTT.

In addition, Beijing Gas plans to launch the first phase of the Tianjin Nangang project in the fourth quarter of 2022.
