SEFE appoints LNG trading head in Asia

SEFE Marketing & Trading, a unit of German gas importer SEFE, has appointed Sarah Behbehani as the new head of LNG trading in Asia.

SM&T announced the appointment of Behbehani as VP, head of LNG trading, Asia in a social media post on Monday.

Behbehani said she is “excited to lead SEFE’s LNG team in Asia at a pivotal time for the industry.”

“With deep experience in LNG trading and origination, I see a strong opportunity to build on SEFE’s solid platform and ambitious growth vision. Backed by a skilled team and a commitment to long-term partnerships, we are set to expand SEFE’s regional footprint, strengthen trading capabilities, and drive commercial growth with reliability at the core,” Behbehani said.

According to Behbehani’s LinkedIn profile, she started working in the LNG industry in 2010, joining Shell in LNG origination.

After that, she worked as senior VP of LNG at Jera Global Markets, and most recently, she worked as VP of origination and business development at Freepoint Commodities Europe.

SEFE’s LNG deals

SEFE Marketing & Trading Singapore (SM&TS), previously known as Gazprom Marketing and Trading Singapore, recently settled a dispute with India’s largest gas utility GAIL over issues related to undelivered LNG supplies.

The German government took over SEFE, previously Gazprom Germania, in November 2022 saying the move is necessary to protect its energy security due to Russia’s ongoing war in Ukraine.

SEFE and its units were quite active in signing LNG supply deals over the last two years.

SEFE’s unit Wingas signed a deal in January 2023 with US LNG exporter Venture Global to purchase 2.25 mtpa of LNG from the latter’s planned CP2 LNG project.

In March last year, state-owned producer Oman LNG and SEFE finalized their previously announced LNG supply deal for 0.4 million tonnes per annum of LNG between 2026 and 2029.

Moreover, SEFE and UAE’s Adnoc signed a sales and purchase agreement in November 2024 for Ruwais LNG volumes.

Under the 15-year deal, Adnoc will supply 1 mtpa of LNG to SM&TS.

Also, the LNG supplies will primarily be sourced from the Ruwais LNG project, with deliveries expected to start in 2028 upon the start of its commercial operations.

Most recently, SEFE signed a deal with LNG producer Angola LNG in December 2024 to buy LNG cargoes from the latter for delivery in 2026.

Under the deal, Angola LNG will supply SEFE with half a million tonnes of LNG, equivalent to eight LNG cargoes scheduled for 2026.
