Petronas continues with LNG bunkering push as it inks Cnooc deal

Malaysia’s Petronas is continuing to sign collaboration deals with global players which include LNG bunkering, and this time the firm joined forces with China’s Cnooc.

Petronas said Monday it signed a memorandum of understanding with the state-owned giant to pursue energy opportunities, including LNG bunkering solutions.

The duo would explore the establishment of a global bunkering supply network, leveraging on both companies’ experience in LNG bunkering, Petronas said.

This marks the fourth LNG bunkering collaboration deal this year for the Malaysian firm following agreements with Adnoc, Jera, and Sumitomo.

Besides bunkering, Petroans and Cnooc will boost collaboration in LNG supply, upstream exploration and development projects, and refining.

The scope also includes oilfield and engineering services, specialty chemicals, lubricants as well as renewable energy, Petronas said.

The Malaysian firm said that the duo already collaborates in the LNG industry via a long-term supply deal. Petronas signed back in 2006 the 25-year supply deal for over 3 million tonnes per year with Shanghai LNG in which Cnooc has a 45 percent stake.
