State-owned multimodal logistics firm Container Corporation of India (Concor) and India’s largest gas utility, GAIL, are joining forces on LNG fuel supply for Concor’s road transportation operations.
According to a statement by Concor, the two state-owned firms signed a memorandum of understanding on April 23 in New Delhi.
The primary objective of the MOU is to develop LNG infrastructure at various Concor terminals on a pan-India basis, to provide uninterrupted supply of LNG fuel for Concor’s road transportation requirements, it said.
Under this MoU, an LNG station is initially planned to be installed at Concor’s terminal at Khodiyar-Ahmedabad.
In addition, the two firms will also explore collaboration in other areas of mutual interest.
Concor said that this move is “yet another step towards Concor’s commitment to provide sustainable logistics solutions to the customers.”
The company said it has already established an LNG station at MMLP Khatuwas and purchased a fleet of 130 LNG trailers, which is resulting in carbon reduction in Concor’s day-to-day operations.
Earlier this year, India’s Blue Energy Motors secured a new order from Concor for LNG-powered trucks.
The new order is for 50 LNG-powered trucks.
This new order builds on Blue Energy Motors’ successful deployment of more than 125 LNG trucks for Concor.
Blue Energy launched India’s 100th LNG-powered truck at its manufacturing facility in Pune in 2023.
FPT Industrial, a unit of Italian manufacturer Iveco, is supplying engines for the LNG-powered trucks as part of a deal the two firms signed in July 2022.
After that, the two firms unveiled the first LNG truck powered by FPT’s 6.7-liter engine in September 2022, while Iveco also agreed to buy a stake in the Indian firm.
