India’s Blue Energy launches 100th LNG-powered truck

India’s Blue Energy Motors said it had launched the country’s 100th LNG-powered truck at its manufacturing facility in Pune.

The roll out of the 100th truck took place on May 11, according to a statement by Blue Energy.

FPT Industrial, a unit of Italian manufacturer Iveco, is supplying engines for the LNG-powered trucks as part of a deal the two firms signed in July 2022.

After that, the two firms unveiled the first LNG truck powered by FPT’s 6.7-liter engine in September, while Iveco also agreed to buy a stake in the Indian firm.

With 280 horsepower and 1000 Nm of torque, BE 5528+ tractor is the most powerful LNG-powered truck available for the Indian market, Blue Energy said.

The truck has the industry’s first 990 liters fuel tank which provides a range of up to 1400 kilometers in single fill, ensuring adequate coverage across important routes of the nation as the LNG dispensing network is coming up, the firm said.

India’s top cement maker, UltraTech Cement, recently again teamed up with GreenLine to add LNG-powered trucks built by Blue Energy Motors to its fleet.

Prior to this move, Dalmia Cement teamed up with GreenLine for 35 LNG-fueled trucks, while JK Lakshmi Cement added ten LNG-powered trucks.

Pune-based Blue Energy Motors manufactured all of these trucks.
