Cameron LNG hits new milestone

Sempra Infrastructure, a unit of Sempra, and its partners have shipped the 1,000th cargo of liquefied natural gas from the Cameron LNG export plant in Louisiana since 2019.

Cameron LNG said in a statement that the 1,000th cargo departed aboard the LNG carrier Maran Gas Kimolos on July 17.

The final destination of the 2024-built 174,000-cbm LNG carrier was not available on Friday.

Cameron LNG’s liquefaction facility, located near Hackberry, Louisiana, along the Calcasieu Ship Channel, shipped its 100th cargo of LNG in August 2020 and its 700th cargo in December 2023.

The facility includes three liquefaction trains capable of exporting up to 14.95 million tonnes per annum (mtpa), or approximately 772 billion cubic feet of natural gas per year.

It began commercial operations with Train 1 in August 2019, followed by Train 2 in March 2020 and Train 3 in August 2020.

In addition to these three trains, Sempra and its partners are working to expand the facility with the fourth train, with a capacity of about 6.75 mtpa.

Strategically located to access both Atlantic and Pacific markets, Cameron LNG has delivered US LNG to 37 countries worldwide, according to the JV.

Cameron LNG is jointly owned by affiliates of Sempra Infrastructure, TotalEnergies, Mitsui & Co., and Japan LNG Investment, a joint venture between Mitsubishi Corporation and NYK.

Earlier this year, Justin Bird, CEO of Sempra Infrastructure, said the company sees a potential to build an LNG export portfolio in the US and Mexico of up to 90 mtpa.

This includes the fourth Cameron LNG train, as well as the expansion of the Port Arthur LNG facility.
