MSC orders 13 LNG-ready containerships in China

Switzerland-based Mediterranean Shipping Co (MSC) has placed an order at two yards controlled by China State Shipbuilding Corporation for in total thirteen LNG-ready containerships.

Dalian Shipbuilding said in a statement it would build seven LNG-ready 16,000 TEU containerships while Guangzhou Shipyard International will construct six vessels.

DSIC did not reveal the name of the owner but LNG Prime understands that MSC is behind the order.

The total price tag for all of the vessels reaches more than 10 billion yuan ($1.52 billion), according to DSIC. It marks the largest single containership order for CSSC.

In addition, the vessels will be 366 meters long and 51 meters wide, the yard said.
