Elenger to take delivery of LNG bunkering newbuild

Estonia-based Elenger will later this year take delivery of its first LNG bunkering vessel, joining a growing number of firms owning such ships.

The 6000-cbm LNG bunkering vessel named Optimus had almost reached Singapore on Tuesday after leaving China last week, according to VesselsValue data.

To remind, Damen’s Chinese yard in Yichang launched the 100 meters long ship in September last year.

Following the completion of trials at Damen’s yard in Rotterdam later this year, the vessel would start supplying LNG to a wide range of ships sailing in the eastern part of the Baltic Sea, especially the Gulf of Finland.

These include two new Tallink’s LNG-powered fast ferries. Elenger is part of Infortar group that includes Tallink, the ferry company operating in the Baltic Sea region.

Furthermore, the new bunkering vessel will be able to transfer up to 1000 cbm/h of LNG via a ship-to-ship method, according to Elenger.

It also has an ice-class 1A notation allowing it to operate in difficult ice conditions.

(This article was updated on October 25, 2021, to say that Elenger would take delivery of the vessel later this year.)
