Total starts using NYK LNG newbuild

A brand new LNG carrier owned by Japan’s shipping giant NYK has started serving a unit of France’s Total.

South Korea’s Samsung Heavy Industries delivered the 174,000-cbm LNG Adventure on March 31, according to the vessel’s manager Gazocean.

The 286 meters long vessel was on Tuesday located offshore Mexico’s Pacific coast heading towards the Panama Canal, its AIS data shows.

NYK and Total Gas & Power revealed the long-term charter contract for the LNG carrier in August 2019.

France LNG Shipping, a joint venture of NYK and Geogas LNG, owns LNG Adventure. The venture also owns Elisa Laurus which was delivered in May last year to EDF.

The new LNG carrier features GTT’s Mark III Flex cargo containment system and 2-stroke WinGD dual-fuel engines, Gazocean said.

To remind, NYK said in October it had purchased the France-based LNG ship management firm from partner Total. Before the purchase, NYK held 20 percent of Gazocean shares while Total held 80 percent.

Gazocean is responsible for the management of six LNG carriers. Besides these carriers, the manager will operate the second LNG bunkering vessel under construction in China owned by MOL and chartered by Total.
