Malaysia’s LNG shipper MISC, a unit of Petronas, has named two 174,000-cbm LNG carriers that will serve ExxonMobil’s unit SeaRiver Maritime under long-term charter deals.
South Korea’s Hanwha Ocean hosted the naming ceremony for Seri Dian and Seri Dayang on May 7, according to a MISC statement.
MISC said that the LNG carriers are equipped with smart and energy-efficient technologies, including the intelligent control by exhaust recycling (ICER) system and an enhanced cargo containment system with reduced boil-off rates.
With the addition of Seri Dian and Seri Dayang, MISC now operates four LNG carriers under long-term time charter with SeaRiver Maritime.
In 2023, MISC took delivery of Seri Damai and Seri Daya, built by Samsung Heavy.
At present, MISC’s LNG fleet stands at 32 vessels with the arrival of Seri Dian and Seri Dayang, “solidifying its position as one of the world’s leading owner-operators of LNG carriers,” MISC said.
In addition, the company recently ordered one floating storage and regasification unit (FSRU) from South Korean shipbuilder Samsung Heavy, marking MISC’s entry into the FSRU segment.
The unit worth $329 million is scheduled for delivery by February 2029.
MISC chartered the newbuild FSRU to Petronas Gas, a unit of Petronas, to serve Malaysia’s third regasification terminal in Lumut, Perak.
