TMC wins contract for AIDA Cruises’ third LNG-powered newbuild

Norwegian marine compressor specialist TMC has won a contract from Meyer Werft to supply its equipment for a newbuild LNG-powered cruise vessel the German yard is building for Carnival’s AIDA Cruises.

Under the deal, TMC said in a statement it would supply a complete marine compressed air system consisting of instrument and service air compressors with an associated air treatment system.

The firm will manufacture and assemble the system at its facilities in the Nordic region and supply it to Meyer Werft in Papenburg, Germany.

TMC did not reveal the value of the contract.

Moreover, the firm will supply the system to the last of three LNG-powered cruise ships Germany-based AIDA Cruises has on order at Meyer Werft.

The German yard delivered AIDAnova, claimed to be the world’s first ocean liner with an LNG drive system, back in 2018, while AIDAcosma should make its debut this year.

In addition, the third ship in the Helios Class should set sail in 2023, according to Meyer Werft.

With a gross tonnage of 183,200 and a length of 337 meters, the sister ships will have 20 decks and space for 2,600 staterooms.
