“None of the crew members on board were injured, and there is no impact on the environment as a result of this incident,” Nakilat said in a statement.
Nakilat said it remains in close coordination with the vessel and its crew and continues to monitor the situation.
“The safety of our people, the protection of the environment, and the integrity of our assets remain Nakilat’s highest priorities,” the company said.
Nakilat did not provide further details, such as t the extent of the damage to the 216,300-cbm Al Rekayyat.
Qatar’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs said on Tuesday that Nakilat’s Q-Flex LNG carrier Al Rekayyat was attacked by Iran while transiting near the Strait of Hormuz.
In 2020, Nakilat took full control of the 216,300-cbm Al Rekayyat from Shell’s trading and shipping unit as part of the second phase of its fleet management transition.
The 315-meter-long vessel serves under a long-term charter contract with Qatari LNG producer QatarEnergy LNG, a unit of QatarEnergy.
Several reports said the vessel is fully laden with LNG from the giant Ras Laffan LNG complex, operated by QatarEnergy LNG.
The vessel reportedly turned off its AIS transponder during the Strait of Transit transit on Tuesday.
Al Rekayyat’s AIS data showed on Wednesday that the vessel is anchored in the Gulf of Oman, not far from the Strait of Hormuz.
An anchor handling tug supply vessel is located close to the LNG carrier, the data shows.
