Greece’s Gastrade, the operator of the Alexandroupolis FSRU-based LNG import terminal, said that its chairman, Theodore Panagos, passed away.

“Theodore Panagos was a distinguished academic, a visionary professional, and a highly respected member of our company’s leadership,” Gastrade said in a statement on Monday.

“As chairman, he made a remarkable contribution to Gastrade and its journey. His deep understanding of the energy sector, his perspective and his commitment will remain part of the company’s legacy and will be remembered with great appreciation,” the company said.

Gastrade’s Alexandroupolis LNG terminal has a capacity of up to 5.5 bcm per year, or some 66.3 TWh per year.

It is the first FSRU-based facility in Greece and complements DESFA’s LNG import terminal on the island of Revithoussa.

Greece’s DEPA recently delivered its first LNG cargo to Bulgaria’s state-owned gas system operator Bulgartransgaz, a unit of Bulgarian Energy Holding, via the Alexandroupolis FSRU-based terminal.

DEPA is a shareholder in Gastrade, along with Bulgartransgaz, Copelouzou, DESFA, and GasLog.
