First Gen awards Batangas FSRU gig to Svitzer

First Gen said it has signed a contract with Denmark’s Svitzer under which the latter would provide towage and other vessel support services for the FSRU-based Batangas LNG import terminal in the Philippines.

FGEN LNG, a unit of First Gen in charge of the project, signed a 10-year time charter party with Maersk’s Svitzer, according to statement dated June 2.

Under the deal, Switzer would provide four newbuild 75-tons LR classed bollard pull tug vessels that will assist the FSRU but also incoming LNG carriers, First Gen said.

In addition, the world’s largest tugboat operator will provide other services including fire-fighting, pollution control, port and vessel security services, pilot and boarding party transfer, and fender management.

First Gen did not reveal the price tag of the contract.

The firm controlled by the Lopez family has previously awarded the FSRU contract to BW Gas, a unit of the Singapore-based gas giant, BW.

BW will deploy its converted 162,000-cbm FSRU BW Paris to serve the import facility at First Gen’s existing Batangas energy complex.

Besides the FSRU, the project consists of the modification of the existing jetty for multi-use and adding gas receiving facilities.

The project would allow FGEN LNG to accelerate its ability to introduce chilled fuel to the Philippines as early as the third quarter of 2022, according to the firm.

Furthermore, the facility would serve the natural gas requirements of existing and future gas-fired power plants of third parties and FGEN LNG affiliates, it said.
