Russia’s Rosneft plans LNG filling stations

Russia’s largest oil producer Rosneft is looking to sell LNG as fuel for vehicles at its network of retails stations.

Rosneft said in a statement it has signed a letter of intent with Russian power and energy firm Inter RAO aimed at developing small-capacity production and sales of LNG and CNG as vehicle fuel.

The duo plans to “assess technological capabilities for LNG production and perspectives of its supplies from the plants,” the statement said.

This is in order to offer LNG and CNG as vehicle fuel at Rosneft’s network of retail stations.

Moreover, the parties will also prepare a list of projects for refitting Rosneft’s retail sites with equipment manufactured by engineering units of Inter RAO, the statement said.

Rosneft says development of LNG and CNG filling stations is one of the “key priorities” of its retail business.

“Natural gas is a more environmentally friendly and efficient fuel type that helps car owners not only to considerably reduce costs but also to increase vehicles operating efficiency while reducing the environmental footprint,” it said.
